New Delhi: Congress general secretary and Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot on Monday visited Gurdwara Bangla Sahib in Delhi and offered prayers ahead of his first Punjab visit on September 15.
After paying obeisance, Pilot said he had sought blessings at the gurdwara and greeted the gathering with “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh”.
Pilot also expressed concern over the growing drug problem in Punjab and reiterated the Congress’s stand against Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema over the death of Gulzar Singh.
He said the drug menace had reached households across Punjab and accused the state government of worsening the situation. Pilot alleged that instead of ensuring accountability when citizens raise questions, their voices are being suppressed and they are being harassed.
Pilot announced that he and other Congress leaders would take out a protest march in Punjab on Tuesday, seeking justice for Gulzar Singh’s family and action against drug trafficking. The protesters are expected to march towards Cheema’s residence.
The Congress leader said the party’s demands were clear: Cheema should be removed from the ministerial post and an FIR should be registered against him.
Pilot said the issue was not limited to Gulzar Singh’s family but concerned every Punjabi who feared seeing the future of their children and families being destroyed by drugs.
