Chandigarh: Despite restrictions imposed by the police and administration, businessman Rakesh Trehan organised an “iPhone langar” at his Sector 10 residence, with iPhone 17 and newer models being offered through a draw for women aged above 18.
Trehan conducted the draw in the presence of media personnel, selecting names of 15 women. No winners were present at the spot to collect the phones. Trehan said he would deliver iPhones to the homes of 10 selected women.
The administration had previously detained Trehan during a “petrol langar” after a large crowd gathered, raising concerns over the law-and-order situation.
Before organising the iPhone event, Trehan said there would be no gathering at his residence and that only media personnel would be present during the draw. He scheduled the draw between noon and 2 pm and appealed to people not to visit his house or create a crowd.
Trehan said he had created a WhatsApp group for women above 18 from Chandigarh and Mohali. According to him, members are required to post “Jai Mata Di” in the group every day, and those who do not do so are removed from the group.
During the draw, Trehan scrolled through the names of group members in front of the media. The member whose name appeared when the scrolling stopped was declared the winner. He said 15 draws were conducted and iPhones would be delivered to the homes of 10 selected women.
Trehan is known on social media as “Raja Di King” and is originally from Amritsar. According to him, his late father was a textile businessman and he inherited half of his father’s property.
Trehan said his company is involved in investment and trading in digital currency and online financial markets. His business interests also include real estate and property dealing.
