Chandigarh: Congress leader and the party’s newly appointed Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot will begin a tour of the state on October 16, focusing on law and order ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
The visit comes amid renewed political debate over law and order following the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta in Mansa. During the tour, Pilot will meet families of people killed in incidents of gang violence and other violent crimes, and express solidarity with them, according to a statement issued by the Congress.
Pilot is scheduled to visit 11 districts: Bathinda, Mansa, Ludhiana, Moga, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran and Amritsar.
The tour will mark Pilot’s first visit to Punjab since taking charge as the party’s state in-charge. The Congress said the meetings would focus on families affected by violence and concerns over the state’s law-and-order situation.
The move comes after the Punjab BJP conducted a campaign against drug abuse in the state and met families affected by substance abuse. Both parties have been highlighting public safety and drug-related issues as political activity builds ahead of the next Assembly elections.
