Mansa: Bhim Singh, father of slain anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta, on Monday appealed against any protest during Union home minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Punjab on Tuesday, saying he would consider it a personal insult. The 72-year-old former Army serviceman expressed confidence that Shah’s intervention would help secure justice for his family.
“I have served the country on its borders. I am a former soldier,” Bhim Singh said, adding that he welcomed leaders from all parties except the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), provided they resigned from their posts before visiting the family.
He said any protest against Shah would be an insult to him and to his son’s memory. He also noted that Punjab BJP president Kewal Dhillon had visited the family without facing opposition.
Bhim Singh reiterated his demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, alleging that evidence could be destroyed if the case was not handed over to the central agency. He said he hoped Shah’s intervention would help deliver justice soon.
He also said that, after consulting family members, it had been decided that Jhotta’s wife, Manpreet Kaur, would now attend meetings of the action committee formed over the killing.
