The Union Home Ministry has written a letter to the Punjab government asking why the Punjab government is still working with the acting chief of the state’s police force. Why has the Punjab Home Department not sent the panel yet?
As per rules, the state government can appoint an officer as acting DGP only for six months. Can’t do it for longer than that.
Gaurav Yadav was appointed as the acting DGP by the Punjab government on July 5 last year. As a result, he completed six months in this post on January 5 as per the rules.
