Amritpal Singh did not flee the country because of his wife: Sources

New Delhi: Pro-Khalistan and separatist Amritpal Singh has been arrested by the Punjab Police and sent to Dibrugarh jail in Assam. Amritpal has been kept in a separate cell in Dibrugarh jail. After Amritpal’s arrest, there are reports from sources that he was trying to escape from India but he did not do so because of his wife. 

  Sources in the Punjab government said that Amritpal Singh’s wife Kirandeep Kaur is a UK citizen and has been in India for the last few days. Since Amritpal went underground, the police had put surveillance on his wife. The police knew that Amritpal Singh would definitely contact his wife. 

    Kirandeep is living in India and her visa is expiring in July. Kirandeep was also stopped at Amritsar airport a few days ago. She was planning to go back to London during that time. Kirandeep came to India a week before her wedding in February this year. Kirandeep was also questioned along with Amritpal’s mother in March. 

  According to sources, Amritpal wanted the same wife to leave India safely. He thought that if he ran away before his wife, the police would blame his wife for his escape.
