Chhina was appointed SIT chief as former chief S Rahul refused to produce false challan in the case: Majithia
Chandigarh: Former minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia today demanded a probe into the deal with the government behind the appointment of IG M S Chhina as the new SIT chief and said the new SIT chief M S Chhina was already given reasons for the security lapses during the Prime Minister’s visit to Punjab ahead of the 2022 polls.
A show notice has been issued. Majithia asserted that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had appointed IG Chhina as the SIT chief only to file a charge sheet levelling arbitrary allegations in the false NDPS Act case registered against him by the previous Congress government. He said the government felt that the IG would produce the challan as per the wishes of the government as he was already being probed for lapses in the security of the Prime Minister and the report of his guilt could lead to a major punishment for him.
He said the IG was due to retire this year and the manner in which the previous Congress government had used DGP S Chattopadhyaya by giving him charge of the state police for 22 days, the Bhagwant Mann government wanted to use the IG in the same manner.
