Chandigarh: Punjabi singer Karan Aujla has returned to India and is expected to appear before the Punjab Women’s Commission after being issued a notice over objectionable language in his song MF Gabru. He was seen arriving at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport late on Monday.
Aujla had sought a week’s time to attend in person. Punjab Police AIG Yadvinder Singh Sidhu has submitted his report to the commission, stating that Aujla and fellow singer Honey Singh will appear soon.
Commission chairperson Raj Lali Gill said she personally heard Honey Singh’s Millionaire and Aujla’s MF Gabru on social media, both of which contained inappropriate references to women.
The National Commission for Women has directed the Punjab DGP to assign a Chandigarh-based police officer to investigate the matter and take strict action.
