Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi to visit India for border talks

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Saturday announced that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit India on a two-day trip from Monday for talks with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on the border issue.

Wang’s visit comes days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled trip to China to attend the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. The Chinese minister is visiting primarily for the next round of Special Representatives (SR) talks on the boundary question, with Wang and Doval designated as SRs for the dialogue.

“At the invitation of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Wang Yi, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Chinese Foreign Minister, will visit India on August 18 and 19,” the MEA said in a statement.

The 24th round of SR-level talks will be held during the visit. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is also scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with his Chinese counterpart.
