Pathankot News (Pawan Dhupar): Continuing its relentless drive against corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested a deed writer, Deepak Kumar, working in the tehsil complex of Pathankot, red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.
An official spokesperson for the state VB disclosed that the accused was arrested following a complaint from a resident of Bungol village in Pathankot district.
The spokesperson stated that the complainant approached the bureau alleging that after purchasing land, he had met the accused to get the property registered. The complainant had transferred the required registration fee to the deed writer, who completed the registration process but then demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000, stating that the original registration documents would only be signed by the Tehsildar after the payment.
After verifying the complaint, a VB team from the Amritsar range laid a trap and caught the deed writer red-handed while he was accepting the Rs 30,000 bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB police station, Amritsar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into the case is underway, he said.
