CBI extends remand of former Punjab DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar in bribery case

CHANDIGARH: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday extended the five-day remand of former Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar in a bribery case. The CBI had filed an application in the special CBI court in Chandigarh seeking Bhullar’s remand, after which the court approved a five-day custody.

Krishna Sharda, who was earlier arrested in the case, has been remanded in judicial custody for nine days. Both Bhullar and Krishna can now be questioned by the CBI.

Krishna Sharda was arrested on October 16 for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a scrap dealer in the name of then Ropar range DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar. Following Bhullar’s arrest, the CBI conducted a raid at his Chandigarh residence in Sector 40 and seized Rs 7.5 crore in cash and 2.5 kg of gold ornaments.

Officials also recovered 26 luxury watches, including Rolex and Rado, over 50 property documents in the names of family members and suspected benami entities, locker keys, bank account details, four weapons, and 100 cartridges. The CBI has also registered a new case against Bhullar for disproportionate assets.
