Pachmarhi (Madhya Pradesh): Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday alleged that the Special Comprehensive Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR) is an attempt to legitimise “vote theft.” He claimed that the exercise is being used to cover up large-scale manipulation of voter lists.
Addressing reporters in Pachmarhi, where he is attending a training camp for Madhya Pradesh district Congress presidents, Gandhi said, “Vote theft is an issue, and now there is talk of covering it up and institutionalising it through SIR.”
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched the Special Comprehensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in nine states and three Union Territories from November 4.
Gandhi claimed that large-scale voter fraud had taken place in several BJP-ruled states. “A few days ago, I gave a presentation on Haryana, and I clearly saw that votes were being stolen. Around 2.5 million votes were stolen, which means one in every eight votes was manipulated,” he said.
“After seeing this data, I believe the same has happened in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. This is an arrangement between the BJP and the Election Commission,” Gandhi alleged.
