Three foreign nationals deported from Canada over links to Punjabi extortion network

Toronto: The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has deported three foreign nationals following an investigation into an ongoing extortion network targeting businessmen of Punjabi origin in British Columbia.

The deportations, carried out on November 7, mark the first action under the BC Extortion Task Force — a joint operation involving the CBSA, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and local police agencies.

The 40-member task force was established earlier this year to tackle transnational organised crime groups operating in the province.

CBSA officials said that 78 additional foreign nationals are currently under immigration investigations for suspected involvement in criminal activities related to extortion cases, as well as possible disqualification for entry into Canada.

India confirms 44 nationals serving in Russian Army, urges Moscow to stop recruitment

New Delhi: India on Friday confirmed that 44 of its nationals are currently serving in the Russian Army, some of whom were allegedly forced to prepare for combat amid the ongoing war with Ukraine.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it has raised the issue with Moscow and urged Russian authorities to immediately halt the recruitment of Indian citizens into their military ranks.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “In the last few months, we have received information about a number of Indian nationals who have been recruited into the Russian Army. As per our understanding, 44 Indian nationals are currently serving in the Russian Army.”

Jaiswal also cautioned Indians against falling prey to fraudulent agents offering employment or military roles in Russia, warning that such offers could endanger their lives. He added that similar advisories had been issued earlier, but many had ignored them.

Centre puts on hold Panjab University Senate and Syndicate restructuring amid protests

CHANDIGARH: Amid the growing political uproar over the reorganisation of the Senate and Syndicate of Panjab University (PU), the central government has softened its stance and deferred the immediate implementation of the restructuring. A revised order to this effect has been issued by the Centre.

According to the new order, the changes proposed under the Panjab University Act, 1947, will come into effect only from a date to be notified later by the central government. This effectively means that a fresh notification will be required to implement the reforms.

The decision follows intense protests by students, opposition parties and farmer unions. The controversy gained momentum after The Tribune reported the development on Saturday, triggering a political storm in Punjab and Chandigarh.

While the government’s move to pause the implementation is seen as a strategic retreat in response to the backlash, supporters of the reforms argue that the restructuring is essential to free the university from political interference.

When a Teacher Showed on Social Media Why Children Should Study in Government Schools – Parents are Getting Emotional Watching This

Punjab E News: Have you ever thought about who will teach your child about Punjab’s Gurus, about their mother tongue Punjabi? In private schools, you only get English and bookish knowledge. But real education, which connects the child to their roots, is found in government schools. And the biggest example of this is **Teacher Simran**, who teaches in a government school of the Punjab government.

Watching this teacher’s teaching method makes every parent’s chest swell with pride. She doesn’t just give her students bookish knowledge – she teaches them Punjab’s culture, the Gurus’ history, the importance of the Punjabi language, and even the names of Cabinet ministers in such an interesting way that children want to learn on their own.

Watching the videos uploaded by her on social media, thousands of parents comment – “I wish we had such teachers in our school too!”

In the videos, children speak Punjabi fluently, recite the Gurus’ teachings, and answer questions in such a way that it seems they are filled with even more confidence than private school children.

And all this has been made possible because of Mann government’s visionary thinking. In Punjab, government schools are no longer just schools for the poor. Here now there are all the facilities that are available in private schools – in fact, in many cases even better.

Teachers are being encouraged, they are being given training, and most importantly – a sense of responsibility has awakened in them. For teachers like Simran Kaur, this government has become an inspiration.

“Earlier it felt like no one was watching our hard work,” she says. “But now the government is standing with us. We are getting resources, we are getting encouragement, so we are also teaching with full heart.”

She hasn’t remained limited to just her classroom. By sharing her videos on social media, she is also inspiring other teachers. Many teachers message her asking – “You do this very well, we also want to teach our students like this.”

And she tells everyone openly. Because her aim is not just to make her own name – but to make every government school in Punjab better.

If you are also among those parents who think “what kind of education will happen in government school” – then do watch Teacher Simran’s videos on social media once. You will understand that your child’s future is absolutely safe in government schools. Here you don’t just get education, you also get values. Here your child connects with their roots.

Mann government has done what was never done before. Now teachers are fulfilling their duty with complete honesty. Infrastructure in schools is improving. And most importantly – children’s future is becoming bright.

If every teacher in Punjab works like her, then government schools can become the best schools in the country. And the good thing is that slowly this is also happening now. The government has laid the foundation. Now what is needed is that every teacher contributes to this mission. Give children not just syllabus, but real education of life.

Two youths killed by Dunki agents in Guatemala; travel agent arrested

HOSHIARPUR: Two youths, Sahib Singh from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, and Yuvraj Singh from Haryana, who had left for the United States a year ago through illegal routes, were allegedly killed by Dunki agents in Guatemala a few months ago.

Their families came to know about the deaths only yesterday after being informed by relatives of one of the youths.

Sahib Singh’s father, Surjit Singh, said the families had sold land and borrowed Rs 50 lakh to pay a travel agent in Haryana. The agents in Guatemala reportedly held the youths hostage and sent videos demanding $20,000 from the families. “When we contacted the agent, he switched off his phone,” Surjit Singh added.

Following complaints, Dasuya police registered a case against travel agent Davinder Singh and his wife Ramandeep Kaur. ASI Sarabjit Singh said Davinder Singh has been arrested and sent to jail, while his wife remains absconding.

Surjit Singh said he had not been in touch with his son for months and only recently learnt about his murder through relatives in Haryana.

Women forced to undress for ‘proof of periods’ at MDU; supervisors suspended after outrage

ROHTAK: Four female sanitation workers at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak were allegedly forced to undress to provide “proof of periods” by two supervisors, triggering massive outrage on campus.

The incident took place on October 26 when the women arrived late for work. Supervisors Vinod Kumar and Vitender Kumar allegedly accused them of making excuses after they said they were delayed due to menstrual issues.

The supervisors then reportedly demanded proof, asking them to remove their clothes. One of the women was allegedly forced to undress, and a photograph of a sanitary pad was taken.

The incident came to light when the victims sent photos and videos to the Haryana Commission for Women. The commission on Wednesday directed the university administration to terminate the supervisors involved.

The same day, Haryana Governor Asim Kumar Ghosh was on a three-day visit to MDU. The situation escalated when the women and student organisations protested against the alleged misconduct. The protesting students and staff reportedly confronted the supervisors, and a scuffle broke out before university authorities intervened.

MDU Registrar Dr Krishnakant Gupta and Vice-Chancellor Rajveer Singh rushed to the spot and immediately suspended both supervisors. The university ordered that they remain in Rohtak and not leave the station without permission.

Police later arrived at the scene and took the supervisors into custody for questioning.

54 Haryana youths deported from US allege torture in detention centres

New Delhi: The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported 54 youths from Haryana who had entered the United States illegally. The young men were detained in US detention centres for several months before being sent back to India.

Upon their return, the deportees alleged that they were subjected to inhumane treatment during their detention. They claimed they were forced to endure harsh conditions, including being made to run as punishment, deprived of adequate food, and kept under strict surveillance. Some even alleged that heaters were used in summer and air conditioners in winter to make their confinement unbearable.

The deportees include 16 from Karnal, 14 from Kaithal, five each from Ambala and Kurukshetra, four from Jind, three from Fatehabad, and a few from Rohtak, Hisar and Palwal.

The youths said they had tried to enter the United States through Mexico and were detained soon after crossing the border. “There were human rights violations in the detention centres. For 14 months, we were locked up without any crime,” one of them said.

They now hope to rebuild their lives and have appealed to the government to provide opportunities to go abroad through legal means.

  • Over 32,000 illegal immigrants in Canada untraceable despite deportation orders

Over 32,000 illegal immigrants in Canada untraceable despite deportation orders

Toronto: Orders have been issued to deport 32,000 illegal immigrants from Canada, but the Border Services Agency has so far failed to track them down. The issue of illegal immigrants surfaced during a meeting of the House of Commons’ Public Safety Committee, where members of the Conservative Party questioned Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree over the matter.

When Tory MP Frank Caputo asked for the exact number of migrants on the deportation list, Anandasangaree declined to answer. However, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Chief Erin O’Gorman later confirmed that 32,000 illegal immigrants slated for deportation are currently untraceable, though she noted the figure could vary slightly.

Addressing concerns about illegal border crossings from the US, Anandasangaree said there has been a 99 percent decline compared to the previous year. He also announced that CBSA would receive an additional 55 million Canadian dollars to strengthen deportation efforts.

The minister added that asylum applications from those entering Canada illegally through the US would now be rejected outright. During the committee meeting, Anandasangaree acknowledged that while the RCMP and CBSA saw a two percent budget reduction in the latest fiscal review, both agencies would receive 1,000 additional officers each to enhance enforcement operations.

According to CBSA data, among 398 refugee claimants deported by Canada, 146 were sent back to the US — 116 of whom were US citizens. The rest were deported to 53 other countries, including Haiti (53), Colombia (24), Turkey (19), and Iraq (15).

The highest number of people on the deportation list are Indian nationals, with more than 7,000 individuals awaiting repatriation to New Delhi. Over 2,000 Indians have already been deported this year, and the figure is expected to rise further by the end of 2025.

Anandasangaree claimed that 18,000 foreign nationals were deported during 2024–25, an increase of 2,000 compared to the previous year. Police departments will now assist in locating and detaining illegal immigrants for deportation.

Under Canadian immigration laws, there are three types of removal orders, each with specific regulations.

Departure orders require individuals to leave Canada within 30 days of the order taking effect.

Deportation orders are issued if a person fails to comply within the 30-day period, barring them from returning for at least one year unless granted written authorization.

Exclusion orders apply to individuals who misrepresented themselves, preventing them from returning for five years.

In the case of a removal order, individuals are permanently prohibited from re-entering Canada. The CBSA clarified that the destination of deportation depends on the country from which the individual originally entered Canada.

‘School of Excellence’ – The ‘Runway of Dreams’ for Every Child! CM Mann’s ‘Modern Age Temples’ Bring Bright Future, Know the New Facilities!

Education Revolution in Punjab with ‘Schools of Eminence’! Record-breaking Success of Government Schools with ₹231.74 Crore Investment and Free NEET/JEE Coaching!

Punjab E News: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, not just a government has changed in Punjab, but the old structure of education that had created a deep divide between rich and poor children for decades has been completely transformed. CM Mann’s firm commitment is that Punjab’s youth will no longer just be job seekers, but will become capable of providing employment to the country based on their confidence and skills. To achieve this great goal, an ‘Education Revolution’ has been announced in the state, whose echo is being heard across the entire country today. His vision is clear: just like a runway at an airport helps planes reach great heights, initiatives like ‘Schools of Eminence’ are now providing children from poor families a strong runway to help their dreams take flight.

This revolution is taking concrete shape through 118 ‘Schools of Eminence’, which Chief Minister Mann calls ‘temples of the modern age’. These schools are not just buildings of brick and stone, but a guarantee of a bright future for millions of children whose parents could never even dream of quality education. The state government has spent over ₹231 crores on these schools to bring the quality of education to a level that was previously only reached by big and expensive private schools.

The central idea of this scheme is that no child, especially girls, should be deprived of education due to lack of resources. That’s why students are being given free uniforms, while free bus service has been started for girls. Most importantly, children in these schools are now receiving special coaching for difficult competitive exams like NEET, JEE, and Armed Forces, which charge lakhs of rupees in the market.

To ensure community participation in education, Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTM) have been hugely successful, with about 25 lakh parents participating, while senior officers are mentoring children through the ‘School Mentorship Program’.

And these efforts are now showing results on the ground. Chief Minister Mann has proudly shared that 265 students from government schools have qualified JEE Mains and 44 have qualified JEE Advanced. Additionally, 848 students have succeeded in the prestigious NEET exam. This success proves that government school children also have the ability to excel in the country’s toughest exams. The credibility of this model is such that even private school students are now joining ‘Schools of Eminence’ in large numbers.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s historic initiative ensures that every child in Punjab, no matter how poor their background, can make their dreams come true and reach new heights in life. Punjab’s future is now being built on the strong foundation of knowledge!
