  • HARJOT BAINS ORDERS COMPLETION OF RS 14-CR FLOOD PROTECTION PROJECTS BY JUNE END

    Punjab E News: Punjab Education Minister and MLA from Sri Anandpur Sahib, S. Harjot Singh Bains, has directed the officials concerned to expedite the ongoing flood protection works in the constituency, giving them target to ensure the completion by the end of June 2025.

    Chairing a meeting with officials from Water Resources, PWD and other departments concerned here at his office on Thursday, S. Harjot Singh Bains reviewed the progress of the flood protection works being carrying out in Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency.

    He informed that a total of 112 flood protection projects worth Rs 14 crore are currently underway in the constituency. These projects encompass a range of works, including cleaning of drains and choes, construction of revetments and studs, building of check dams and soak pits.

    Reaffirming the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government’s commitment to protecting the region from flood threats during rainy season, S. Harjot Singh Bains said that overall infrastructure is being ramped up to ensure the effective management of water resources in the area.

    S. Harjot Singh Bains stated that residents of villages Nakkian, Mehndali Khurd, Behrampur, Raipur Sahni, Chandpur, Mindhwan, Nikku Nangal, Jindwari, Tarapur, Bhallari, Ramgarh Bela, Paharpur and Sadhewal will benefit from ongoing flood protection works, gaining relief from seasonal floods and enhanced irrigation facilities.

    Notably, S. Harjot Singh Bains has been visiting these villages in recent past and as per the demand of local people these flood protection works are being executed on war footing.

    After witnessing the devastation caused by flash floods in the past, the Education Minister said that the state government has prioritised flood protection measures in the region.

Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government has started a Residential Summer Coaching Camp- 2025 at SAS Nagar (Mohali) to prepare the young minds for competitive exams including JEE and NEET, announced S. Harjot Singh Bains, Minister of School Education, Punjab.

    The move comes following the remarkable success of the previous academic year, where 265 government school students have qualified for JEE (Mains) and 44 students cleared JEE (Advanced).

    S. Harjot Singh Bains said that Punjab School Education department is hosting the Residential Summer Coaching Camp- 2025 under its flagship School of Eminence programme to provide top-notch competitive exam coaching to government school students.

    “As many as 600 students of Class 12th, selected through a rigorous process, will be participating in the 7th edition of the Residential Summer Coaching Camp,” he said, while adding that the 23-day intensive camp includes 500 students preparing for JEE and 100 for NEET, highlighting the program’s sustained success.

    “We are committed to levelling the playing field for government school students. Every student deserves a chance to pursue their dreams, regardless of their background. This camp isn’t just about academics; it’s about nurturing potential, building confidence, and paving the way for a brighter future for these young minds,” emphasised the Education Minister.

    S. Harjot Singh Bains said that the Residential Summer Coaching Camp provides a comprehensive and nurturing environment to support student success. It offers expert guidance through top-tier coaching from experienced educators, providing high-quality academic support tailored to the students’ specific needs. The curriculum is designed to address unique learning styles, focusing on foundational concepts, problem-solving strategies, and test-taking techniques. Daily doubt-solving sessions create a supportive environment, while comfortable accommodations, nutritious meals, and 24×7 supervision ensure students can focus on their studies. Harjot Singh Bains today directed officials to expedite the processing of proposals from private colleges seeking university status. The move aims to streamline the upgradation process, reinforce academic excellence, and expand access to quality higher education in the state.

    To ensure effective coordination and real-time monitoring, the Education Minister designated Director Higher Education, Mr. Girish Dayalan, as the Nodal Officer for overseeing the progress of all such proposals.

    Chairing a high-level meeting with chairpersons and directors of leading private colleges, the Minister reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann to reform and revitalize the education sector through efficient, transparent, and merit-driven processes.

    “This initiative reflects our resolve to provide Punjab’s youth with increased access to quality education and better employment prospects. We are committed to removing unnecessary delays and creating a robust ecosystem for higher learning and make Punjab Education hub for India,” said S. Harjot Singh Bains.

    Officials have been instructed to conduct a merit-based review of pending applications and to accelerate decision-making processes, with a focus on transparency, fairness, and efficiency. The government also aims to harness the capabilities of the private sector to complement public initiatives and catalyse academic growth across the state.

    The meeting witnessed participation from representatives of 18 private institutions, including CGC Group Mohali, Rayat Bahra Hoshiarpur, Sri Sukhmani Group Dera Bassi, Babe Ke Group Daudhar (Moga), Sher-E-Punjab University Lalru, JIS Group Ludhiana, and Baba Farid Group Bathinda, among others. Stakeholder feedback and concerns were actively noted, with the Minister assuring responsive and facilitative governance in the days ahead.

    Man ends life due to mental stress after wife cuts ties from abroad

    Chandigarh: In a tragic incident, a 32-year-old man ended his life by hanging himself at his residence in Shakti Vihar Colony of the city on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Ravneet Singh, son of Amar Singh.

    According to family members, Ravneet got married in 2018 and later sent his wife to Australia after selling his house and mortgaging gold ornaments. She had reportedly promised to call him there as well, but after reaching Australia, she severed all contact with him.

    Distressed by this, Ravneet had been suffering from mental stress, the family said. On Thursday night, he locked himself in a room. When he did not respond for a long time, the family broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling fan.

    A team from the police forensic department, along with Yadwinder Singh Kang, a volunteer of the Youth Welfare Society, Bathinda, reached the spot. The police have sent the body for post-mortem to the civil hospital and have begun further investigation.

    New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed that the NEET PG 2025 examination should not be conducted in two shifts. The court said holding the exam in multiple shifts could lead to varying levels of arbitrariness and difficulty, and instructed the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to make arrangements to conduct the exam in a single session.

    The order came while the court was hearing a petition filed by the United Doctors Front, which challenged the NBE’s decision to conduct the exam in two shifts.

    The petition argued that the examination should be held in a single session nationwide to ensure uniformity and fairness.

    In the previous hearing, the Supreme Court had issued a notice and sought a response from the NBE. The NEET PG 2025 examination is scheduled to take place on June 15.

    The advisory comes amid an ongoing crackdown on illegal immigrants and growing concerns over mass deportations. The US Embassy in India, in an official statement, said, “If you leave a course, miss classes, or withdraw from your study program without informing your university, your student visa may be revoked. This will prevent you from getting a US visa in the future.”

    The embassy urged students to strictly follow the conditions of their visa and maintain their student status to avoid any complications.

    The warning follows reports of several foreign students facing sudden visa cancellations. Some cases have been linked to participation in pro-Palestinian protests, traffic violations, or other breaches of visa conditions.

    Chandigarh: The Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) has released the notification for the Common Eligibility Test (CET) 2025, which will be the basis for direct recruitment to various Group-C posts in the state government. The exam is considered a key gateway for thousands of job aspirants in Haryana.

    According to the notification, the online application process for CET 2025 will begin on May 28 and continue until June 12.

    Candidates can submit the application fee until June 14. The exam will be conducted in offline OMR-based mode.

    A significant update for previous candidates is that those who appeared in CET 2022 can apply using their existing CET number without the need to register again.

    The exact date of the examination will be announced separately.

    Jalandhar News: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has launched the Punjab Sikhiya Kranti to modernize government school education.

    In this endeavor, a special initiative called “Ek Din DC/CP De Sang” has been introduced to give wings to the dreams of government school students. As part of this initiative, two groups of district’s top female students spent a day with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal and Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur.

    During this time, they learned about the duties performed by IAS and IPS officers and got firsthand exposure to government welfare schemes and programs. They also closely observed office work, learning about the functioning of different departments, the inspection process at the DC office, and the police commissioner explained in detail the security arrangements, community policing, and police work.

    Three top district female students from the 12th class — Madhavi Salaria, Shakshi, and Amanpreet Kaur — spent their time with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal. These talented government school students scored 99%, 98.60%, and 98.40% marks respectively in the non medical stream.

    In the morning, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal warmly welcomed them to his office and engaged in a lively conversation. He also took them on a tour of the Service Center and the Registrar’s office, providing detailed information about the ongoing schemes.

    At Sub-Registrar Office Jalandhar-1, they were briefed on the registration process. Additionally, a meeting was held with these outstanding students and other officials to discuss flood prevention in the district. Later, Dr. Aggarwal had lunch with the students. In the evening, 38 outstanding students of the district were honored, including 13 from the 10th class and 25 from the 12th class.

    Furthermore, thanks to this unique initiative of the Punjab Government, three 10th class district topper female students — Preeti Kumari (97.85%), Navneet Kaur (97.54%), and Neelu Kumari (97.54%) — spent their day with Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur. The Police Commissioner warmly welcomed them and had a conversation before taking them on a tour of various branches.

    Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal and Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said that this special initiative “Ek Din DC/CP De Sang” launched by the Punjab Government will prove very useful for students, as spending a whole day with the DC and CP provides insights into various functions, inspiring students to aim high in their careers. They encouraged students to always dream big and work hard to achieve those dreams.

    At the end of the day, the talented female students who spent time with the DC/CP departed with new insights and understanding of the working systems of various government departments, and expressed their commitment to positively contribute to the country and society by joining administrative and police services. Sharing their experiences, the students said it was a very important day for them. They welcomed this initiative by the Punjab Government, saying that it would be very beneficial for government school students, giving them the opportunity to soar high.

    One killed, several injured as Haryana Roadways bus overturns near Hisar

    Hisar: One person was killed and several others injured after a Haryana Roadways bus overturned near Rajli village on the Hisar-Rajli road on Monday morning, police said.

    The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a fallen tree. The bus was carrying around 65 passengers, mostly students, at the time of the incident.

    Locals and passersby rushed to the spot and helped evacuate the passengers. However, 20-year-old Khushi Mohammad, a resident of Rajli village, died on the spot.

    Four girl students sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
