Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today heard the case related to the viral interviews of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed in the matter has submitted another report to the court, which contains crucial evidence and facts. The report has been kept sealed. The next hearing is scheduled for August 28.
Earlier, the SIT — constituted on the High Court’s directions — had found seven officers and employees guilty of dereliction of duty, following which all were suspended.
According to the SIT report, Bishnoi’s first interview was conducted on September 3 and 4, 2023, while he was lodged in the CIA Kharar in Punjab. The interview was later broadcast on March 14, 2023, in which Bishnoi confessed to the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. He alleged Moosewala had become involved in a gang war and was linked to the killing of Akali leader Vicky Middukhera, which led to his elimination.
The second interview was recorded inside Jaipur Central Jail, Rajasthan. In it, Bishnoi showed his barrack, claiming he was not allowed outside but still had access to mobile phones and network signals. He said prison guards rarely monitored at night, enabling him to make calls.
Bishnoi further revealed that mobile phones were often thrown into the jail from outside, and while sometimes staff intercepted them, most managed to reach inmates.
