Phagwara News: A 20-year-old student of Lovely Professional University (LPU) allegedly died by suicide on the campus in Phagwara on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Nikhil Simak, a resident of Sunnad Khurd village near Phillaur. According to preliminary information, the student allegedly jumped from the ninth floor of the university library building.
University authorities and fellow students rushed him to Civil Hospital, Phagwara, for emergency medical assistance. Emergency medical officer Dr Simar examined him and declared him brought dead.
Senior superintendent of police Madhvi Sharma reached the spot soon after the incident. She said the local police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
“All angles are being examined and statements are being recorded. The matter is under investigation,” the SSP said.
The university administration expressed grief over the untimely death and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the campus, with students and faculty members mourning the loss. Authorities have appealed to the public to refrain from speculation while the investigation is underway.
