Jalandhar: A tragic incident was reported from Punjab’s Jalandhar where a young woman was cremated on her birthday a day after her death. Munmun, daughter of Shiv Sena leader Deepak Kamboj, died on Thursday after allegedly suffocating due to a gas leak from a geyser while taking a bath at her home.
According to initial findings, Munmun had gone to the bathroom to bathe when gas began leaking from the geyser pipe. As the bathroom was closed, gas accumulated inside leading to suffocation. She reportedly lost consciousness inside the bathroom without being able to call for help.
Family members grew worried when she did not come out for a long time. After repeated knocks went unanswered, they broke open the door and found her lying unconscious. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her dead.
The incident plunged the household into mourning as preparations for Munmun’s birthday celebrations were underway just hours earlier. Police reached the spot after receiving information and sent the body for postmortem.
After the postmortem, Munmun was cremated at the Kishanpura cremation ground in Jalandhar. Police said the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem report though preliminary investigation points to suffocation caused by a geyser gas leak.
