Bihar: A 26-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in a moving ambulance while being taken to hospital after fainting during a home guard recruitment drive at the Bihar Military Police Ground in Bodh Gaya on July 24. The incident has triggered widespread outrage across the state.

According to the FIR, the woman lost consciousness during the recruitment exam and was being transported to a hospital when the ambulance driver and a technician allegedly sexually assaulted her inside the vehicle. Both accused have been arrested by Bihar Police.

Officials said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case. A forensic team has also been deployed. Police confirmed that CCTV footage has verified the route of the ambulance and the timing mentioned in the woman’s complaint.

The alleged gang rape has intensified scrutiny of Bihar’s law and order situation. Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief and Union minister Chirag Paswan, whose party is part of the ruling NDA at the Centre, slammed the Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar. Speaking to reporters in Patna before heading to Gaya, Paswan said, “I regret supporting a government which has failed to maintain law and order properly.”

This is the second time in just over a week that Paswan has publicly criticised the Bihar government.
