Islamabad: At least 29 passengers were injured after the Islamabad Express derailed near Kala Shah Kaku in Pakistan’s Punjab province on Friday evening, local media reported.
According to Punjab Rescue 1122, five coaches of the passenger train derailed near a chemical plant in the Kala Shah Kaku area, located close to Sheikhupura. The control room received an emergency call at around 7.32 pm, after which relief operations were immediately launched.
Punjab Rescue spokesperson Farooq Ahmad said six emergency vehicles and 25 rescue personnel were dispatched to the site to carry out rescue work. Most passengers sustained minor injuries.
Rescue officials said 22 passengers were given first aid at the scene, while seven others were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Muridke for further medical treatment. Two passengers, who were trapped inside the bogies, were safely rescued and transported to hospital.
No casualties have been reported in the incident.
