Toronto: A case of murder of an Indian national has come to light in Toronto, with Canadian police issuing a Canada-wide arrest warrant against a suspect known to the victim.
The Indian Consulate in Toronto on Wednesday said it was “saddened and shocked by the murder of a young Indian citizen, Ms. Himanshi Khurana in Toronto.” In a post shared on X, the consulate extended its heartfelt condolences to her bereaved family and said it was providing all possible assistance in close coordination with local authorities.
The consulate said it has been in touch regarding the matter over the past few days and is supporting the family as investigations continue.
Toronto police said a 30-year-old Indian-origin woman was murdered and have identified the deceased as Himanshi Khurana, a resident of Toronto. Police are searching for Abdul Ghafouri, 32, also of Toronto, in connection with the case.
According to police, officers were first alerted late Friday night after receiving a report of a missing person. “On Friday, December 19, 2025, at approximately 10:41 pm, police responded to a call of a missing person in the area of Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West,” police said.
The search continued overnight and on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at around 6:30 am, the body of the missing woman was recovered from inside a residence. Police said the death is being treated as a homicide.
Investigators said the victim and the suspect knew each other and the incident appears to be related to intimate partner violence, according to CBC News. Ghafouri is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder.
