New Delhi: A political row has broken out in the national capital over complaints related to missing persons, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) questioning law and order after claiming that more than 800 people have gone missing within just 15 days. Delhi Police, however, has strongly rejected the allegation, calling it misleading.
In an official statement, Delhi Police said there has been no increase in missing persons cases and asserted that the number of such complaints in January was, in fact, lower compared to the same period in previous years. The police said all cases are handled strictly as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), with immediate efforts made to trace missing individuals, especially children.
The police further said that dedicated ‘Missing Person Squads’ are operational in all districts, while the Crime Branch’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit is also actively involved to ensure effective action. Clarifying concerns raised by AAP leaders, Delhi Police stated that no organised gang has been found to be involved in cases of missing or abducted children in the capital.
Appealing to the public, the police urged people not to pay heed to rumours and misinformation, stressing that every reported case is taken seriously and investigated promptly.
