Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday announced its candidates for the upcoming municipal council elections in four Punjab towns — Sham Churasi, Dinanagar, Gurdaspur and Qadian — scheduled to be held on June 13.
The announcement was made jointly by AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia and state party president Aman Arora.
Congratulating the candidates, the two leaders encouraged them to campaign vigorously and connect with voters at the grassroots level. They expressed confidence that the party would continue its strong electoral performance in the state.
Sisodia and Arora said the people of Punjab had recently given a decisive mandate in favour of the Aam Aadmi Party during the municipal corporation and municipal council elections. They asserted that the party expects a similar response in the upcoming civic polls and is hopeful of securing a convincing victory in all four municipal councils.
The elections are being viewed as another test of political support in urban areas ahead of future electoral contests in the state. With campaigning set to intensify in the coming days, all major political parties are expected to focus their efforts on winning key local bodies.
Polling for the four municipal councils will take place on June 13, while the counting of votes will be conducted after the completion of the electoral process.
