AAP candidate’s son assaulted in Ludhiana village, one arrested

LUDHIANA: An incident of alleged vote-buying and violence was reported on the eve of polling in village Dakha of Mullanpur Dakha in Ludhiana district, Punjab, where the son of an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate was allegedly attacked.

According to the police, Varinder Singh alleged that his mother, Kuljit Kaur, is contesting the block committee elections on an AAP ticket.

He said he received information that former sarpanch Jatinder Singh was involved in buying and selling votes in connivance with his associates.

Varinder Singh said that when he reached near Mata Rani Chowk to verify the information, he found Jatinder Singh standing there. As he attempted to shake hands with him, Jatinder Singh allegedly called his accomplices—identified as Jaskaran Singh, Arsh and Bhavan. He alleged that the four then attacked him with a sharp weapon and beat him up.

The police have registered a case against all four accused on the complaint of Varinder Singh, a resident of village Dakha.

ASI Inderjit Singh, who is investigating the case, said that one of the accused, Jaskaran Singh, has been arrested, while raids are on to trace and arrest the remaining three accused.
