AAP celebration for zila parishad and panchayat samiti poll victory in Mohali today

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal will jointly celebrate the party’s success in the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections at an event in Mohali on Thursday afternoon.

According to results available till 8.30 am, the AAP has taken a commanding lead in both tiers of rural local bodies. Final results are expected to be announced by noon.

Elections to the zila parishad were held in 346 zones. However, nominations in one zone of Khadoor Sahib were found invalid. So far, results of 211 zones have been officially declared, including uncontested seats.

In the zila parishad, the AAP has secured 123 seats along with 22 unopposed seats, taking its total to 145. The Congress has won 30 seats, followed by the Shiromani Akali Dal with 26 seats. The BSP has won three seats, while the BJP and CPI(M) have failed to open their account. Seven seats have gone to Independents.

In the panchayat samiti elections, voting was held across 2,838 zones, of which 352 winners were declared unopposed. Results of 2,300 zones, including uncontested seats, have been officially received so far.

The AAP has emerged as the largest party with 977 seats and 339 unopposed seats, taking its total to 1,316. The Congress has won 487 seats along with three unopposed seats, totalling 490.

The Shiromani Akali Dal has secured 290 seats, while the BJP has won 56 seats. The BSP has bagged 26 seats, while Independents have won 112 seats along with 10 unopposed seats, taking their total to 122. The CPI(M) has not won any seat.

AAP leaders said the results reflect a strong endorsement of the party’s governance and its grassroots connect across Punjab.
