Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party suffered a major setback in the Doaba region after party MLA Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi resigned from the post of chairman of the Punjab Warehousing Corporation and also stepped down from his cabinet position amid the ongoing controversy over missing pavan saroops.
The resignation comes in the wake of statements made by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP leadership at Sri Raja Sahib’s Darbar regarding 169 missing saroops. Following these remarks, Sukhi had repeatedly said he would take up the issue with the government to seek a resolution.
Sources said the developments surrounding the sensitive religious issue intensified political pressure, eventually leading to Sukhi’s decision to quit his posts.
The resignation is being seen as a significant political development in the region, where the issue has evoked strong sentiments.
