New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer and Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh, originally from Jalandhar, has expressed deep concern over the violent attack on 70-year-old Sikh elder Harpal Singh in North Hollywood, USA.
He called the assault not only an attack on the victim but also on the values of humanity, diversity, and mutual respect.
A video shared by Harbhajan Singh shows Sikh elders sitting on the ground, soaked and stained with blood. Harpal Singh was rushed to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in critical condition, where doctors have kept him under observation.
He has undergone three surgeries so far, including brain bleeding and eye surgery, and remains semi-unconscious in the ICU.
Police reports state the attack happened around 3 pm the previous day when a man riding a bicycle stabbed Harpal Singh violently.
Initial investigations suggest the assault was racially motivated due to the victim’s faith, ethnicity, and appearance. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the attacker; no suspects have been confirmed yet.
Known in the local Sikh community as a quiet and devoted man, Harpal Singh lived at the Lancashim Gurudwara and regularly served langar and recited prayers.
A family member described him as “so calm that it is difficult to imagine anyone intentionally harming him.” He was often seen feeding birds near the Gurudwara park.
