Jalandhar: Political tensions escalated after allegations surfaced against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and former Delhi chief minister Atishi over the alleged insult of Sikh gurus in the Delhi Assembly. An FIR has been registered on the complaint of Iqbal Singh, in which the names of Congress MLA Pargat Singh, Sukhpal Khaira and one other person have reportedly been included.
In protest against the FIR, AAP workers on Saturday laid siege to the Jalandhar residence of Congress MLA Pargat Singh. During the demonstration, Pargat Singh came out of his house, but police stopped him from approaching AAP leaders present at the spot.
Speaking to the media, Pargat Singh said the entire Delhi Assembly incident is available on video. He said if the video was tampered with, the BJP was responsible and if there was any objectionable statement in it, it was made by AAP leaders.
Raising questions over Punjab’s law and order situation, Pargat Singh said conditions in the state are extremely poor, yet forensic investigations have not been conducted in any major case so far. He also questioned the Delhi Assembly Speaker summoning the Jalandhar Police Commissioner, saying the move raises several concerns.
