Mumbai: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who is widely admired for his on-screen performances and off-screen generosity, has extended support to flood-hit Punjab by contributing Rs 5 crore for relief efforts.
Punjab is currently reeling under one of the worst floods in its history. In an interview with an English media outlet, Akshay said he does not consider his contribution a donation but a service.
“I stand by my opinion. Yes, I am giving Rs 5 crore to buy relief material for Punjab flood victims, but who am I to donate to anyone? When I get a helping hand, I feel blessed. For me this is my service, my small contribution,” he said.
The actor also prayed for Punjab to overcome the crisis soon and hoped that affected families could return to normal life.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have once again appealed to their fans to donate for flood victims. Cricketer Harpreet Singh Brar released a video urging people to come forward and support those affected.
Akshay Kumar’s gesture has been widely appreciated.
