New Delhi: An Air India flight from Delhi to Vancouver returned to the national capital on Thursday evening after remaining airborne for nearly seven hours due to an operational issue.
The airline said the Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft (VT-AEI), operating as flight AI185, landed safely at Delhi airport and all passengers and crew members were unharmed.
According to flight tracking data, the aircraft was over Chinese airspace when it was turned back. The airline stated that the decision was taken in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure passenger safety.
Sources indicated that the diversion may have been linked to an administrative or technical concern, though the exact reason has not been officially detailed.
Air India confirmed that arrangements were made for passengers and the flight later departed for Vancouver on Friday morning.
The incident highlights precautionary measures adopted by airlines, with safety protocols taking priority in case of any operational irregularities.
