Air India says Dreamliner’s RAT deployment not linked to technical fault or pilot action

New Delhi: Air India on Wednesday clarified that the deployment of the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) on its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft on October 4 was neither triggered by a technical fault nor by the pilot.

The airline said the clarification was based on findings from a preliminary investigation. It added that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had been informed about the incident and a preliminary report was submitted as per the prescribed guidelines.

The RAT, which is typically used during an engine or electrical failure, was deployed seconds before the aircraft from Amritsar landed safely at Birmingham Airport.
