Akal Takht jathedar seeks liquor ban across Punjab on martyrdom days

Amritsar: Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, said that liquor vends should be shut across Punjab on martyrdom days.

He said the sale of liquor should remain banned for three days during Shaheedi Jod Melas, as these occasions are meant for mourning and remembrance, not intoxication or entertainment.

He said Sikh devotees who reached Fatehgarh Sahib to pay obeisance were also seen questioning why liquor vends are not closed during martyrdom days. At present, liquor vends remain shut on January 26, August 15, October 2, and on polling and counting days during elections.
