Amritsar: Nachtar Singh Gill, the national president of the Shiromani Akali Dal IT cell, was arrested by Tarn Taran police on Saturday. He was picked up from a café on Ranjit Avenue while he was sitting with friends. Police seized the DVR of the café during the arrest.
The reason behind the action is yet to be revealed. According to sources, Gill had been threatened by the police several times during the Tarn Taran by-election. The operation was led by Tarn Taran Police DSP Atul Soni who is currently posted in Goindwal Sahib.
Sources believe that the arrest may be linked to social media posts related to the Tarn Taran by-election. Akali Dal had shared several posts critical of the government during the polls. All posts from the party are approved and uploaded under Gill’s supervision.
In October 2018, Gill was appointed as the president of the IT cell.
