Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) woman leader Kanchanpreet Kaur, who was in the spotlight during the Tarn Taran bypoll, was arrested by the Jhabal police on Friday. Her mother, Sukhwinder Kaur, had contested the by-election as the party’s candidate but lost.
According to officials, Kanchanpreet Kaur appeared before the Majitha police for questioning on the court’s directions in connection with a case registered on November 12.
She was reportedly interrogated for several hours before being taken into custody by the Jhabal police in relation to a separate case filed on November 11. Police said she has been named in that FIR and arrested accordingly. A total of five cases have been registered against her so far.
Kanchanpreet Kaur had gone underground during the Tarn Taran bypoll, with sources claiming she stayed in Delhi while evading arrest. There were also rumours that she had travelled abroad through Nepal, but her arrest has now ended all speculation.
