Akash Deep hits maiden Test fifty as India extend lead to 167 runs at The Oval

London: India extended their lead to 167 runs over England on the third day of the Oval Test, finishing the first session on Saturday at 167/3 in their second innings. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and night watchman Akash Deep did a over 100 runs partnership for the third wicket.

Now, Jaiswal is playing at 85 and captain Shubham Gull at 8.

Akash Deep notched up his maiden Test fifty, scoring 66 runs off 94 balls, including 12 boundaries. Resuming play at 75/2, India built on their overnight total after having bowled England out for 247 on Friday, gaining a slender 23-run first-innings lead. India were earlier dismissed for 224 in their first innings.

With his half-century, Akash Deep became the first Indian night watchman since 2011 to score more than 50 runs against England at The Oval. The last Indian to do so was Amit Mishra, who made 84 runs in the 2011 Oval Test.
