Chandigarh: Alba Smeriglio has assumed office as the new British Deputy High Commissioner in Chandigarh. She will represent the United Kingdom across four Indian states — Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand — along with the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Smeriglio is a career diplomat with diverse experience in overseas and London-based roles.
She earlier served in Montserrat as head of programmes and office, in addition to assignments in the Caribbean and South Asia.
During her tenure in London, she worked across key policy areas, including development, democratic governance, security cooperation and human rights.
