Amritsar: Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, has directed all members and executives of the Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) to adopt Amritdhari discipline by September 1, warning that those who fail to do so will lose their membership.
The directive was issued after CKD president Inderbir Singh Nijjar and 19 executive members met Jathedar Gargaj at the Akal Takht Secretariat on Monday to respond to complaints regarding violations of Sikh Rehat Maryada by some members of the charitable body.
During the meeting, Jathedar Gargaj questioned the members about the complaints and heard their explanations. He said that according to the Sikh Rehat Maryada and the CKD constitution, it is mandatory for members to be Amritdhari and follow Gurmat principles.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Jathedar Gargaj said the organisation has been given 41 days to ensure compliance, adding that no member should dye their beard or tie a kundal in it, as it violates Sikh Maryada.
He also directed executive members who did not attend Monday’s meeting to appear before the Akal Takht Secretariat on August 1 to present their side.
“If any member is not Amritdhari by September 1, the Chief Khalsa Diwan will terminate their membership,” Jathedar Gargaj said, urging the organisation to uphold Sikh discipline while performing its duties.
