Alok Mittal appointed new Haryana DGP amid probe into IPS officer’s suicide

Chandigarh: 1993-batch IPS officer Alok Mittal has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana.

The appointment comes days after senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar died by suicide at his residence in Rohtak, sparking a major controversy and investigation into alleged workplace harassment.

Following the incident, the Haryana government had transferred several senior officers, including the then Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia.

Mittal’s appointment is seen as an attempt by the state government to restore stability and confidence within the police department amid ongoing scrutiny over the handling of the case.
