Ambulance services halted in Himachal Pradesh as staff begin two-day strike

Shimla: Ambulance services across Himachal Pradesh were completely disrupted on Friday after employees of the 108 and 102 ambulance unions launched a two-day strike over their demands.

Thousands of workers affiliated with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged strong protests at district headquarters, demanding the implementation of labour laws, minimum wages, overtime payment, and an end to alleged harassment of staff.

In Shimla, demonstrators gathered outside the National Health Mission (NHM) office and submitted a memorandum to the administrative director, who assured them of a prompt resolution.

Vijender Mehra, CITU state president, condemned the exploitation of NHM employees, stating that the government has neither announced a minimum wage nor provided sanctioned leaves. He alleged that employees raising their voices for rights are often subjected to transfers, forced resignations, or other forms of mental harassment.

Mehra warned that if the government failed to meet their demands soon, the protest would be intensified, holding the administration fully accountable for any consequences.
