Jalandhar: Panic spread in Punjab’s Jalandhar after an ammonia gas leak at a factory in the city’s surgical complex on Monday evening. The incident took place at the Metro Milk Products Company, where several workers were trapped inside.
According to officials, nearly 30 people were initially feared stuck. Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot, deployed machines to control the gas, and launched rescue operations. Police also appealed to residents in nearby areas to evacuate to safer places.
Ashok Kumar, a worker at the factory for the past eight months, said the leak was reported around 4 pm when nearly 40 workers were inside. “Those trapped were taken out from the back side and admitted to a private hospital,” he said.
Authorities said all workers have now been evacuated, though the exact cause of the leak is yet to be determined. The situation continues to be monitored closely, and arrangements have been made to shift any injured workers to nearby hospitals.
