Chandigarh: The death of Aqeel Akhtar, son of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa and cabinet minister Razia Sultana, has taken a sensational turn after a viral video allegedly featuring Aqeel surfaced online. In the video, Aqeel is heard making serious allegations against his father, claiming he had an affair with Aqeel’s wife.
At a press conference in Panchkula on Saturday, Shamsuddin Chaudhary, a resident of Model Town in Malerkotla and neighbour of the family, alleged that Aqeel’s father, wife and mother — former minister Razia Sultana — were all involved in an illicit relationship. He claimed Aqeel had revealed these details himself in a video recorded on August 27, shortly before his death.
According to Chaudhary, Aqeel’s death was the result of a conspiracy by his family. He submitted a written complaint to the Panchkula Police Commissioner, demanding a detailed investigation into the case.
In the 16-minute, 11-second video, Aqeel reportedly said, “Today is August 27, 2025. I am recording this video to keep a record. I came to know about my father and wife’s affair a year and a half ago. I caught them near the dressing room in 2018, a year after our marriage, but he ran away.”
Aqeel further claimed, “My wife was married to my father, not to me. She didn’t even let me touch her on our wedding night.” He also expressed fear for his life, saying that his family had earlier lodged a false FIR against him and were conspiring again to “trap and kill” him.
Shamsuddin said Aqeel had warned in the video that he might be murdered. “His sudden death confirms those fears. This clearly appears to be a suspicious death,” he said, urging police to probe all digital evidence, including the video, call records, post-mortem report and the role of family members.
Aqeel, 35, reportedly died of a drug overdose in Panchkula around 9 pm on Thursday. His family told police that he had consumed an excessive dose of medicine. He was found unconscious and taken to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6, where he was declared brought dead. A post-mortem was later conducted at the Government Hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula.
