Washington: A suspected armed intruder was shot and killed early Sunday morning after breaching the security perimeter at U.S. President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw, two U.S. Secret Service agents and one deputy confronted the individual after he entered the secured area. Officers ordered the suspect to drop his weapon. While the man reportedly put down a can of oil he was carrying, he raised a firearm into a firing position.
Perceiving an immediate threat, security personnel opened fire, killing the individual at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
Authorities confirmed that Donald Trump was in Washington at the time of the incident and was not present at the Mar-a-Lago property.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has taken over the investigation and is currently collecting evidence. Officials have not yet determined the motive behind the breach.
The incident comes amid heightened concerns over political violence in the United States. In 2024, there were reportedly two assassination attempts targeting Trump, and several other political figures and activists have faced threats or attacks in recent months.
The investigation remains ongoing.
