Srinagar: Four employees of SpiceJet were allegedly assaulted by an Army officer at the Srinagar airport over an issue related to excess baggage, police said on Sunday. The incident took place on July 26 but came to light only recently.
One of the airline staff suffered a fractured spine, while another sustained a broken jaw. A third employee reportedly began bleeding from his nose, and the fourth fainted during the attack. Despite this, the accused officer allegedly continued kicking the unconscious staff member.
The airline, in a statement, confirmed the incident and said the officer has been placed on a no-flying list. “The Indian Army is committed to maintaining discipline and standards of conduct. Full cooperation is being given to the authorities in the investigation of the case,” the statement added.
According to India Today, the accused has been identified as Lieutenant Colonel Ritesh Kumar Singh, who is currently posted at the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) in Gulmarg.
Police have registered an FIR in the case, but no arrests have been made so far.
