JALANDHAR: Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur has dismissed ASI Mangat Ram from service for negligence in the investigation of the sexual assault and murder of a minor girl in Basti Bawa Khel. Two PCR police personnel have also been suspended, and departmental action has been initiated against them.
Officials said the action was taken after serious lapses came to light during the investigation. The Commissioner of Police said negligence in crime-related cases would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
During the probe, it emerged that ASI Mangat Ram failed to take proper action at the crime scene and did not examine the CCTV footage carefully. The Commissioner said such negligence damages the credibility of the police force and affects the delivery of justice.
Under the police’s zero-tolerance policy, strict action has been taken against the erring officials.
Meanwhile, the Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi also visited victim’s house on Thursday.
