Texas: At least 51 people have died in Texas after heavy rains triggered severe flooding, submerging homes and vehicles and sweeping away entire areas within minutes, officials said.
A summer camp set up along a canal was inundated by the rising waters, leaving 27 girls missing. Around 750 girls were reported to be at the camp when the floods struck.
Officials said the river level rose by 26 feet in just 45 minutes as heavy rain lashed the area, catching many residents off guard.
Texas Governor Ken Patrick said rescue operations were underway, with teams working to evacuate people to safer locations.
