Melbourne: At least eight people were reported killed in a shooting incident at Bondi Beach in Australia on Sunday, triggering panic in the area. The attack took place during celebrations marking Hanukkah, officials said in an official post on X, urging residents to stay away from the area.
Videos circulating on social media showed scenes of chaos at North Bondi Beach on Sunday afternoon, with a large number of people seen running across the sand as loud gunshots rang out.
In another video, two young men dressed in black were seen standing on a road and firing what appeared to be high-powered weapons, reportedly resembling shotguns. People nearby could be heard screaming as they fled to save their lives.
Police later shot one of the men believed to be involved in the attack, while the other was apprehended. Both suspects are currently in police custody.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the motive behind the attack or the identities of the victims. Investigations are ongoing.
