Melbourne: Australia took a 1-0 lead in the five-match Ashes series after defeating England by eight wickets in a match that finished in just two days. Chasing a target of 205 runs in the second innings, the hosts cruised to victory with only two wickets down.
Travis Head delivered a blistering performance, scoring 123 off 83 balls. Marnus Labuschagne added an unbeaten 51 runs to guide Australia comfortably to the win.
Australian pacer Mitchell Starc was named Player of the Match for his impressive bowling display. The second Test of the series will take place in Brisbane from December 2.
