New Delhi: Australia defeated India by two wickets in the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
After winning the toss, Australia opted to bowl first. India posted a total of 264 for 9 in 50 overs, with Rohit Sharma top-scoring with 73 off 97 balls, including seven fours and two sixes, before being caught by Hazlewood off Mitchell Starc. Shreyas Iyer also contributed 61 runs from 77 deliveries.
In reply, Australia made a cautious start but crucial partnerships guided them to victory, reaching the target in 46.2 overs with eight wickets down. Matthew Short led the chase with 74 off 78 balls, while Cooper Connolly remained unbeaten on 61 from 53 balls, hitting five fours and a six.
For India, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Washington Sundar picked up two wickets each, but their efforts were not enough to prevent Australia from clinching the series.
With this win, Australia have now secured two consecutive victories over India in the ongoing three-match series.
