‘Australian PR fraud’: Ludhiana AAP MLA’s daughter-in-law booked for ‘duping’ legislator’s son over spouse visa

Ludhiana: The Ludhiana Police have registered a case against the daughter-in-law of ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina and her parents on charges of alleged fraud linked to an Australian permanent residency (PR) application.

An FIR has been lodged at the Daba police station against Navneet Kaur, a resident of Mohali currently living in Australia, along with six members of her family. Chhina is a first-time MLA representing the Ludhiana South constituency.

According to the complaint filed by the MLA’s family, around ₹50 lakh was spent to facilitate Navneet Kaur’s move to Australia after her marriage to Navkiranjit Singh, Chhina’s son. Navkiranjit later joined her in Australia in 2018 on a spouse visa.

The complainants alleged that following a matrimonial dispute, Navneet Kaur withdrew Navkiranjit Singh’s name from the joint permanent residency application without his consent. They claimed the move jeopardised his immigration status and caused significant financial loss.

The complaint further stated that tensions escalated between the two families over a dispute related to gold jewellery while the couple was in Australia. When Navkiranjit Singh became aware of the disagreement, he confronted Navneet Kaur, following which the PR application issue allegedly surfaced.

Police said the matter is under investigation and further action will be taken based on the findings.
