Baba Farid University of Health Sciences named controlling authority for pharmacy, healthcare courses in Punjab

Chandigarh: In a major administrative overhaul aimed at strengthening healthcare education and services across Punjab, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, has been officially designated as the controlling authority for all pharmacy and healthcare-related courses in the state.

The responsibility, which earlier rested with the Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training, has been transferred with immediate effect through an order issued by the department’s director. The move marks a significant restructuring in the governance of health education in Punjab.

Under the new arrangement, health-related courses previously administered by IKG Punjab Technical University and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University will now function under the academic and administrative supervision of BFUHS.

BFUHS vice-chancellor Dr Rajeev Sood said the decision is in line with the university’s statutory provisions, which mandate that all health-related programmes fall within its jurisdiction. He added that the transition is expected to improve governance, raise academic standards and deliver better outcomes for students pursuing healthcare, paramedical and pharmacy education in the state.
