Dhaka: A Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into a school building in Dhaka shortly after take-off on Monday, killing at least 19 people, mostly children, and injuring dozens, officials said.
The F-7 BGI training aircraft of Chinese origin crashed into the Milestone School and College campus in the northern region of Dhaka, triggering a fire at the site.
“Nineteen people were killed in the crash and the fire that followed,” Brigadier General Zahed Kamal, director general of fire service and civil defence, told reporters. He said at least 50 others were seriously injured in the incident.
Rescuers recovered 19 bodies from the school compound alone, while search and rescue operations were still underway, officials said.
